Games Impact is Positive for has recorded a big increase in web sales in the run up to, and first week of, the London Olympics.

In the period 21st July to 1st August 2012 UK sales are up 53.3% over the same period in 2011. This is a greater growth rate than Slurp's YTD growth number, indicating that there has been a specific boost to spending during this period.  We believe that this increase is driven by two factors: 1) people stocking up before the start of the Games - as we expect to see before major sporting events (and our video on the wines being poured at the Olympics was an important driver here).  But we also believe that 2) since the games began that a lot of our London customers have been choosing to shop online rather than try to get to what they expected to be very congested high streets.  

Thankfully our North West London logistics hub has experienced no delays or significant issues – so our next day ‘Slurp Express; service has operated completely unimpaired thus far. We have issued no negative guidance to customers on potential disruption and this has undoubtedly played a part in keeping sales buoyant.
