SH Jones Acquires the Assets of Ribica International Ltd Trading as, the innovative online wine and drinks retailer established in 2004 and which has a strong online presence in UK, has this month been acquired by SH Jones (SHJ), the family-owned wine merchant established in Banbury in 1848.

The deal between Ribica International Ltd and SH Jones will see a rare marriage of old- and new-style forms of wine retailing, a complementary combination of both cutting-edge online retail and the more traditional hand-sell high-street model.

This is the second purchase by SHJ of an online wine retailer this year following their acquisition of Hawkshead Wines in January.

Greg Shaw, former proprietor of Hawkshead Wines and now Commercial Manager for SHJ, says, “We discovered very early on during the integration of Hawkshead and SHJ that the strengths and synergies of bringing together an online business and a traditional bricks and mortar business can be a very successful combination.”

Shaw comments, “The addition of Slurp is a very exciting development and gives a very strong presence in online retailing and the base to develop the business further in the future. Hawkshead Wines has an outstanding reputation for customer service and combining this with Slurp’s innovative and extensive range, we believe that SH Jones will become one of the country’s leading internet retailers.” has been making waves in the online wine market in the UK since launching nine years ago, developing one of the most sophisticated online wine retail platforms and pioneering the sale of single bottles direct to their customers' doors, which even today is a service not offered elsewhere. The company is the fastest-growing online retailer in the UK with over 6,000 wines on its list, and in 2012 was voted Direct Merchant of the Year by the International Wine Challenge.

SH Jones Wines was established in Banbury in 1848 and has been in the ownership of the Jones family since 1886. Since the beginning a large proportion of the company's business has been supplying the on-trade and today they continue to supply pubs, hotels and restaurants in a large area around Banbury, as well as servicing their long-established client base via one of their four retail outlets consisting of one cellar shop and three high street shops.
