This lightly oaked Chenin Blanc is named after Louis Albert Péringuey, the 19th Century Inspector-General of Vineyards in the Cape, who led the fight against phylloxera and supervised the importation of American rootstocks onto which the various vineyard varieties were grafted.
From mature 37 year old vines, this Chenin is from the oldest block on the estate and carries the lower-yielding Montpellier clone. The smaller berries allow for great fruit concentration and generous flavours of white pear, quince and green pineapple. Half the wine is barrel-fermented and matured “sur lie” for 8 months to highlight the varietal character of this magical grape. The remainder is vibrant and unoaked, giving rise to a blend that is impressively full and flavoursome with complex characters.
