S H Jones Wines was established in Banbury in 1848 and has been in the ownership of the Jones family since 1886. Since the beginning a large proportion of the company's business has been supplying the on-trade, and we continue to serve pubs, hotels and restaurants in a large area around Banbury. Further information for trade customers can be found here.
The company took over the current High Street premises in 1913, and opened a further shop in Leamington in the late 1990s. A second outlet was opened in Banbury, the Cellar Shop, attached to our large warehouse on the Tramway Estate.
In early 2016, after much consideration, the business in the High Street was relocated to an expanded Cellar Shop, not much more than a mile away. This venue has plenty of parking and the space to display a much wider range and was an obvious route for expansion for the company.
As well as our extensive range of wines, the shops also stock a large range of spirits and liqueurs, and a variety of craft beers and local bottled ales. All our staff receive accredited training from the WSET, the Wines and Spirits Educational Trust.
In 2013 SH Jones expanded into the on-line market with the purchase of first Hawkshead Wines and then Slurp, IWC Direct Merchant of the Year 2012. The company's on-line sales are now routed through www.hawksheadwines.co.uk. A year later the business was strengthened by the acquisition of the wholesale and retail operations of Stevens Garnier.
There has therefore been a lot of change in a relatively short time but the company retains its family ethos and a desire to work in partnership with its suppliers throughout the world and its loyal customers in the UK.
